Particulate matter from medical devices can cause a range of medical problems, from granulomas to acting as a vector for infection.

SMTL are now offering wet and dry linting assessments of medical devices,  such as swabs, theatre wraps, gowns, drapes and pulp products (equipment trays).

Using various methods to mechanically deform, vibrate, or flex the device in question, we can measure the number of particles generated over a range of sizes which are important in the medical environment.  This allows theatres and healthcare establishments to purchase devices which minimize the risk to their patients.

SMTL are able to test surgical gowns and drapes to the following standard:

  • ISO 9073-10:2003 - Textiles -- Test methods for nonwovens -- Part 10: Lint and other particles generation in the dry state
