SMTL have launched a new web site - Medidex (the Medical Device Index) - which can be found at http://www.medidex.com/.
The site acts as a repository of information on medical devices. The information may have been generated as:
- Work undertaken for Welsh NHS procurement processes in conjunction with Procurement Services (formally Welsh Health Supplies). This would typically include test reports of medical devices or our medical device datacards;
- Work undertaken for the Welsh NHS as part of SMTL's R&D remit. Examples of this would include work on single use screws and plates;
- Work undertaken on a commercial basis for medical device manufacturers and suppliers. This includes test reports for products tested at SMTL.
We are in the process of loading information onto the site at the moment, but many older articles are already available.

SMTL have now acquired the Rulla test apparatus necessary to perform wet bacterial penetration testing of gowns and drapes to ISO 22610, as required by EN 13795 ("Surgical drapes, gowns and clean air suits, used as medical devices for patients, clinical staff and equipment.")

SMTL had one of the very early medical websites on the Internet, launched in 1996. That site, even though it has had a few face lifts (1997, 1998), has not changed much in the last decade. Despite this, it continues to attract many visitors each month.
The long serving website has now been retired, but in case you want to know what it looked like in the good old days, you can see it on the wayback machine, just before its demise.
