Heat and Moisture Exchangers
The MDA publication evaluation published a review issue in
March 1996 on Heat and Moisture Exchangers (HMEs).
The issue covers 41 products, and gives technical data on moisture
output, pressure drop, tidal volume range, compressible volume,
prices, and other useful details.
There is no information regarding the filtration efficiency of
combined Heat and Moisture Exchange Filters in this
document.

New Drug Tariff Document
The Drug Tariff have published a new document entitled
An introduction to Part IX of the drug tariff
system.
The document explains why the drug tariff has to be changed to comply
with the EC medical Devices Directive (93/42/EEC).
- The revised system involves applying 3 basic tests -
Appropriateness, Cost Effectiveness, and Safety and Quality.
- the department will consider all products carrying the CE mark to
be safe and of an acceptable quality.
After June 1998, the department will no longer need to look into the
safety and quality aspects of any applications that fall within the
Directive.
