UKAS Accreditation
SMTL is the only UKAS accredited NHS laboratory in the UK dedicated to the testing and
evaluation of surgical dressing and medical devices.
SMTL performs work for the NHS and the healthcare industry, including
test method development and clinical trials.
SMTL is not just a test laboratory - expert staff can help you with

Examination & Surgeons Gloves
Testing to UK DoH TSS specification (this standard is, however, now

Protein Testing

Urinary Catheters
Testing to BS 1695, including
toxicity testing.

SMTL Personnel
SMTL presently employs 17 members of staff.
The Acting Director,
Peter Phillips,
has been responsible for the testing of medical disposables for
the Welsh NHS since 1983.
He sits on numerous British Standards committees, including
those responsible for Gloves, Intravenous Sets and Plastics Tubing.
